FamilyLink Lessons in Schools

Welcome to Suffolk County Music Service’s ‘FamilyLink Lessons in Schools' opportunities. These are lessons that are offered in your child's school, that are arranged directly with us at the Music Service.

We are pleased to let you know that registration of interest for small group instrumental FamilyLink Lessons in Schools starting this September is now open. Please see your school's information below for the available instruments.

If your child is already accessing these lessons, you do not need to re-register.

If there are any other instruments that your child would like to learn, please let the County Music Service know and they may be able to facilitate these lessons also, should there be enough interest. You can register this interest at the link at the bottom of this page.

Our schools continue to work in partnership with Suffolk County Music Service to provide high-quality music tuition, delivered during the school day by experienced, specialist teachers.

Why take music lessons?

Learning an instrument or developing vocal skills is a hugely rewarding experience. It helps to build confidence, creativity, discipline and teamwork, while also supporting wider academic progress.

Lesson details

  • Lessons take place during the school day on a weekly basis
  • Lessons are delivered in small groups of up to 4 students, lasting 30 minutes. Groups are generally structured according to ability and experience of students, but can be created according to other criteria, if there are clear learning benefits
  • A full programme of lessons runs for 34 sessions across the academic year, all of which are delivered within term time

Costs and payment

  • Payments are made directly to Suffolk County Music Service
  • Fees are payable in advance (termly or annually) at a cost of £7.85 per 30-minute lesson. Individual lessons may also be available on request
  • Financial support is available including a 50% reduction of fees for families in receipt of Free School Meals

Instruments and opportunities

  • Discounted instrument hire is available from the County Music Service in case your child does not already have their own instrument and it can be arranged for the instrument to be delivered directly to your child, in their lesson
  • Instrument hire is free of charge for all Looked after Children, previously looked after children or children in receipt of Free School Meals
  • Pupils may have opportunities to take part in performances, ensembles, and school music events
