Instrumental and Vocal Lessons in Schools (Direct billing to parents)

Learning to sing and play an instrument has so many benefits for children and young people. Music education improves academic skills, increases self-esteem, develops social and physical skills, and so much more.

You have been sent to this page as your child will be receiving instrumental tuition in their school next academic year and the payment of these lessons will be directly through us (Suffolk County Music Service), rather than through the school.

To ensure that your school continues to provide pupils with excellent instrumental tuition, they have kindly subsidised the cost of part of these lessons for you.

In order to access these lessons, we will require you to complete an online registration form (further details can be found below).

How many lessons will my child receive and how long will they last?

Your child will receive a maximum of 34 lessons across the academic year and these will be 30 minutes long taught in small groups.

How much will I have to pay?

Due to your child's schools contribution and support for this scheme we're delighted to be able to offer your child lessons for only £6.50 per 30 minute lesson.

If starting lessons at the beginning of a term, there are two payment options - a termly charge of £84.50 for Autumn (13 lessons); £65.00 for Spring (10 lessons) and £71.50 for Summer(11 lessons) or a yearly charge of £221.00. If your child is starting lessons part way through a term you will be billed for the remaining available lessons within that term, (unless starting in the last two weeks of term, in which case the cost of these will be added to the next terms charge).

On the application form you will be able to select which payment option you wish to choose.

In certain circumstances we are able to offer a monthly payment option but please do contact us to discuss this if this your preferred option.

Pupils who are/have been a Looked After Child (LAC)/Child in Care (CiC) will get the lessons free of charge. Pupils who are in receipt of Free School Meals will receive lessons at the reduced rate of 50%.

What if my child does not receive the full number of lessons?

If you have paid for the whole academic year, and the number of lessons delivered falls below the guaranteed 34 lesson threshold, you will receive a refund at the end of the Summer Term based at a rate of £6.50 per lesson.

If our music tutor is unable to deliver a lesson (due to any sickness leave etc) then you will receive a refund at the end of the Summer Term based at a rate of £6.50 per lesson.

Lessons are payable in advance. We do not offer a refund or credit a lesson if your child is unable to attend (unless in exceptional circumstances).

If for any reason your child is no longer able to continue with their lessons, then please make us aware by email at: - county.musicservice@suffolk.gov.uk, giving half a terms notice.

My child doesn't have an instrument - can I hire one from you?

Yes you can - we offer an instrument hire scheme, for which there is an additional charge.

On receipt of your completed application form, a member of our Business Support Team will get in touch requesting payment. On receipt of your payment, lessons will be allocated to your child.
